Hey everyone, no one has posted in a while, so I figured that I would.
I just wanted to share my Palm Pre experience with everyone. I've been looking at this phone since it was announced back in January. So when it was announced that it would come out on June 6th (D-Day no less) I was excited. It was my birthday the week before so now I have something to ask for.
I was considering camping at my Sprint store, but decided not because, they really didn't advertise the phone too much. The only people that seemed to know about it were tech people like us. I got to the store 3 hours before they opened whiched proved a good move. Only 2 people ahead of me. By the time they opened, there were 50 people behind me.
The store had a "Pre Advocate", basically he was the only person to touch a Pre before today. This proved a dumb move because the other employees had difficulty at first setting up our phones, so it took an hour to the out of the store. Another funny thing, was that my wife came with me to wait in line because she is good like that, and while in line she decides out of the blue that she wants one too. She has never seen or heard of the pre before, but now she must have one. Ok, no biggie, we were both due for phone upgrades anyway.
We had to sign up for the everything data family plan, which is a great deal, and is much cheaper than a similar plan for the iphone. Unlimited data, text, pic mail, and 1500 minutes to share, with the usaual free nights, weekends, mobile to mobile, etc. all for $104 a month with my government discount. Reg price is 129.99.
The phone is awesome. It really is a blast to use. Multi-tasking is amazing, and the notifications are good and not intrusive. You don't have stop what you're doing to respond to a notification, it moves to the bottom of the screen so you can get to it when you want.
The touch screen is crisp and vibrant, and very responsive. It makes a little ripple where you touch so you can see what you hit, a big plus over the iphone.
It syncs with facebook and gmail flawlessly, all I had to do was enter login info and it automatically downloads all my contacts from facebook and gmail. It also links contacts together if you have a contact in both services. It combines conversations from texting, im, and facebook into one thread, as well as calander events from multiple sources.
The app store is nice, with solid apps, but only about 20 at the moment. With the release of the SDK more will be on th way.
Haven't played with music yet, but it actually syncs with itunes. Itunes sees it as an ipod. You can also download songs from amazon music which is a nice touch.
Overall, I'm very happy with the pre. From my experience, it beats the iphone hands down.
Sorry for the long post, just thought you'd like to hear it.
