Hey Everyone. I've come across a problem where everyone of you would be able to help. Some of you may know that I work as an air traffic controller for the Federal Aviation Aviation. Some of you may also know that The FAA and the controllers union were in contract negotiations...well that is until Wednesday, 4/5/06 we were. After nine months of negotiating the FAA walks away from the table and declares impasse. Federal employee negotiating is a little different than the private sector...an impasse means that the FAA declares that they are unable to find a solution and send the last best offers of both parties to Congress. If Congress does not act in 60 days the FAA is allowed to impose whatever they want onto us. They're proposal reduces our pay, benefits, and rules regarding leave and schedulig. (I will include a link later that can explain it better.) We basically become slaves to the management with no way to fight back.
Our job is extremely complex and uniquely difficult, so it's hard to compare it to any other profession. To put it into perspective, an air traffic controller is responsible for more lives in a single shift than a surgeon is in their entire career. It's the only job where you have to be perfect all the time, because if you make a mistake people die. That's the bottom line. In my opinion, someone with that much responsibility deserves to be compensated for it.
So, here is how you can help. Please contact both of your senators and your representitives and tell then you are concerned about the actions the FAA has taken, and that you want there to be fair negotiations.
Here is a link to http://www.fairfaa.com where it explains the situation better and has a toll free phone number to get you in touch with your senators. It also has an email program that has a prewritten message that you can personalize and it is automatically sent to your correct senators and reps.

Here is the link to the union website as well for more info. http://www.natca.org
Oh, the toll free number on fairfaa.com is only for senators. To find contact info for your representitive please use http://www.house.gov
Tell them you support bills S.2201 and H.R.4755
Thanks everyone. I appreciate your help.
