Half-Life 2: Episode One FAQ!
The next installment in the Half-Life franchise has had a name change. From "Aftermath" to a simple "Episode One", the change being for the best to show that this is going to be the start of Valve’s plan for episodic content.
“As the name sWhat exactly is Half-Life 2: Episode One (AKA Aftermath)?
“As the name suggests the episode continues from where Half-Life 2 left off, as Laidlaw explains "Aftermath deals with the events and issues set in motion during Half-Life 2. You've done critical damage to the Citadel. The whole place is going to go up, taking out City 17 and what's in its immediate radius. You and Alyx are leading the flight from the city getting up close and personal with some of the creatures and sights from the end of the game."
From early screenshots it would appear that with the damage to City 17 and its defences, some old creatures such as Ant Lions that were previously blocked from the city have broke through and now litter the streets. You will also meet enemies from the final Citadel levels such as the Combine Synth and Stalkers.
As well as fighting new creatures in new locations you will also have new weapons to fight them with. The gravity gun will make a comeback and will offer a new level of interactivity to the game.” (Courtesy of Halflife2.net)

Now, since the name change, I am unclear as to whether this Episode One is going to be sold as stand-alone product at retail stores , because that was originally planned not too long ago. If the package details are set in stone, then expect to see the episode in its own box or in a Platinum Edition box bundled with your other favorite games. Oh, can’t forget that it will be released via Steam at the same time!
Now, since the name change,So, what was the price again?
$19.99USD for Aftermath as a stand-alone product (Bundled with HL2 DM and HL DM: Source). *Confirmed
~$50USD for Aftermath bundled with other Valve Titles - Platinum Edition (Platinum will include HL2, HL2 DM, CS: Source, DoD: Source, and Aftermath.)
Half-Life 2 is not required to play Episode One.
So far, we know Is Episode 1 going to use some new Source engine technology?
So far, we know it will be using Valve's implementation of HDR (High Dynamic Range) Lighting and some advanced AI will be in this title, too. It is possible that there some unmentionables kept secret by Valve/EA.
Of course! The aaAny screenshots to keep me busy while I await its release?
Of course! There are a fair few to be found and I'm sure a few more will be released before the game is out.
