According to this post over at Half-Life 2 Fallout Forums:
Yes, the RC went to VU yesterday.
This quote supposedly from Gabe Newell. Considering the latest fiasco over there with Gabe's account getting overtaken, we will endevour to check in with VALVe on this and confirm it.
Update: PHL has now confirmed this news with both Doug Lombardi and Gabe Newell, who says it was his post.
I know this is yesterdays news, but I wanted confirmation it was true; as the last Gabe Comment was a hoax. It has now been confirmed that this comment, is indeed, true.
Quoteth Gabe Newell on the hl2 Fallout Forums:
"Yes, the RC went to VU yesterday."
Chris_D at halflife2.net has also confirmed with Gabe Newell that the Counter-Strike: Source and Half-Life: Source release candidates have also been sent to Vivendi.
What does this mean?
The release candidate is sent to Vivendi for review. If Vivendi Universal concurs that it is fit for a release, then HL2 will start production and shipping.
This also means that Half-Life 2 is completed.
Who knows when it will be released, or when it will go gold. It will be interesting to see what Vivendi's reaction is; and whether or not we will have game-in-hand before christmas. It could be days, weeks or months.
On a side note, the HL2 steam preload Phase 3 Started on September 10th, 2004.
