Sony Vegas Pro 13

Dose anyone know how to use Sony vegas to edit videos. I want to be able to crop videos that I record and split it and upload them to youtube. I am looking for .avi support. Can anyone recommended a different program as well. I have used windows movie maker and I am not a fan of it.
