Here is a rough schedule for the July 31st Lan Party.

Please keep in mind that there will be open games going on at all times. The schedule below just refers to "focused" game types.

Are those Half Life games Steam powered?
If so, I found this in the FAQ section on the http://www.steampowered.com web site.

TECHNICAL SUPPORT

* How can I have a LAN party or similar event using Steam?

Any Steam game, when played on a LAN or otherwise, requires that each individual client be able to authenticate via the Internet.

At a LAN party, this means that Internet access must be available to every machine on which Steam games are being played.

If desireable, the network administrator of such an event can limit internet access to only the TCP/IP ports which Steam needs. These are:

UDP 1200
UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive
TCP 27030 to 27039 inclusive

At large events, it will be necessary for each attendee to let their games fully update before attending to avoid taxing the shared internet connection with too much content delivery.

So it looks like that if we plan to use the Steam version, we would need Internet access.

Harlock:

FYI - we figured out how to get a Steam Server and Clients working on a LAN without having internet connection to outside.

So the documentation you posted can be considered incorrect.

I'm not posting what to do but it's three items added to the command line when starting the server.

And it's not Arm, Leg and Credit Card Number :P

Have some new network equipment. The main backbone of the lan will be have a Gigabit switch with 8 ports. I have a Gigabit card on the linux server now so that's going to be fast.

Also have a new 26 port switch (with 2 gigabit ports).

Expect low pings
