NJLP Jan Lan 2005 Game Servers

Post by Osiramon »

I will be bringing the same server I brought to 7HM 5.0. This has on it:

HW: Intel P4 2.8Mhz
Windows XP Professional
1 Gb Ram
80GB drive
200GB Drive

- Full Steam set of games (CS, CSS, DMC, HL DMS, HL etc).
- UT2004 dedicated Server and many map files (to latest patch)
- BF 1942 / DC dedicated server
- BFV Dedicated Server
- Tribes Vengeance Dedicated server (may run in conflict with UT2K4)
- Mech Warrior 4 (not sure if mercenary or other pack).
- Halo 1 for PC dedicated server
- Nascar 2004 - (still need to get patch files for this)

The Linux box is being reconfigured and I will have 2K4 on it for sure (set for 1v1 ladders).

HW: AMD K7
1100 Mhz
1.25GB memory
Linux Fedora Core 2 (upgrading to Core 3)
80GB drive
SW:
It had HL / CS on it, and I want to add CSS/HL2 to it. Am researching.
UT2004 with maps. Upgrading to latest version.

Will also bring new Lan shared USB drive (with 250GB) that will have all patch files and any server or game related files that I can think of. If you want any patch files (not part of UT2K4, Quake III, BF 1942/DC, BFV) then let me know and I will download them. Post on NJLP forum for faster response from me (I check that more often)...

Thanks Corpus!

Question, are we able to play Steam games without a internet connection?

Important item if we have no Web connection.

Make sure your steam files are completely up to date. Then connect to steam the night before. Once connected, remove the LAN connection. It should permit the sytem to connect to other lan servers.

I have to do the same thing for the servers.

Any idea when we will do a 'site' survey to check for a web connection?

Setting Steam account prior to NJLP LAN event.

Post by Osiramon »

It does not look like we will be able to get an internet connection at the lan party. This is still being worked on by the Black Ops group.

For Steam, you wan to connect tonight and then exit it rather than logging off of Steam.

Murdock has the link to this info in the ALPS server. To go there, click register, then hit news or log intot he ALPS (Advanced Lan Party Managment System)

Note: You have Steam online somewhere at least once to perform all of the following steps.

The first step here is to perform the latest update and capture it. This is very important to make sure you get the latest content and bug fixes. Everyone that will be participating at the LAN event must have the latest update!

Easiest way
Bring the computer that will be playing offline to an available internet connection at a friend's house, school or perhaps business. Log into the account and do all the updates, make sure it all works.

Then "exit" (do not log out!) from Steam.

Physically unplug the computer from the internet, start up Steam and let it fall back into offline mode. Make sure the computer will play both Listenserver (LAN), client and the single player ok, then exit from Steam again.

WIN98
If this is a WIN98 computer, it will act like it's stuck updating and not logging in, JUST WAIT! It will take about 90 seconds for it to finally figure out that there isn't an active internet connection then it will prompt you to retry or go into offline mode.

The computer is now ready to play offline at home unless he accidentally logs out ...
If he does this he won't be able to play unless he verifies online again.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to burn a CD of the working offline installation for him.

Transferring Steam to Another Computer
It is not possible to copy an Offline Steam installation over to a different Computer and have it run offline. The target machine has to be online to authenticate at least once before going offline.

You must delete the ClientRegistry.Blob after transferring the files and before running Steam.

Moving the files over will save download time, but there may be required updates.

LAN Party Setup:
Clients
All clients that are going to play on the LAN should have unique Steam Accounts. You might also have to assign unique clientports to each computer if they are going to play online as well as offline

We will have dedicated servers on the LAN.
