The situation is I bought the mac version ages ago and haven't been able to find the install disc. I also own the windows version through Steam. I downloaded a pirated version of UT2k4 for mac because no one is selling that version as a download and there's not even any over priced copies on eBay.. But because I'm using a pirated version, the GUID is known and block in various ways on different servers. On some, I can't chat, others, I can't even join.
I think there's a way to change the GUID via the console, but I haven't found how. Can I somehow take the GUID from the Steam version and insert it in the pirated mac version?
Command to change the GUID for UT2k4?

Where does Apple keep their registry stuff? In windows, it is easy. Just edit the registry. In MAC, I think it is a file in one of the folders.
If anyone else was asking, I would say...Ask Nill.

Mac doesn't really have registry files in the same way windows does. I can open up the executable and get access to a bunch of files for UT2k4, but I'm not sure which one would have the GUID in it or that it would even be stored as plain text.

Registry type info is usually stored in a plist file, which I believe is in XML format.
There are also some config/preference type files located under /library.
That all being said, I may actually have a copy of ut2k4 for Mac tucked away.

I know that, but considering it was a drag and drop installation, I think the GUID is stored in the executable and not as a preference file.War_Ghoul wrote:Registry type info is usually stored in a plist file, which I believe is in XML format.

There are usually plist files stored within the executable package.

This is a duh moment for me. I was so focused on the GUID, that I hadn't thought that the cd key. I'll just grab that from the Steam version and see if that works.War_Ghoul wrote:There are usually plist files stored within the executable package.
