Doom3 - Thoughts...Opinions?

Post by BLuDjuN »

I have been playing the single player since it came out on the 3rd. It seems to run well in 800X600 high quality for me. Still, to get above 60 FPS, I have to turn off shadows. Not a show-stopper, but I would rather have the full effect with the shadows.

The multiplayer seems very laggy to me. Any ping above 30 and it seems unplayable. Others do not seem to be having that problem. Most say it is very smooth. If anyone has any ideas, I would love to improve my multiplayer performance.

Doom 3 is filled with  evil  elements...

It was suggested that we indicate how we are doing in Doom3. This means you are NOT using cheat codes.

I do admit that after doing about 4 levels, I went and got the duct tape mod for the shotgun and machine gun. I hate the times I would hit F and it didn't switch because I had it the middle mouse button.

As it is I haven't enabled the console so I don't know my FPS yet. I am currently at the Delta 4 Labs 2 second part (after the teleportation).

I have the BFG9000 but haven't tried it out yet. Normally I am using the shotgun on things since I find that it gets rid of things quickly. There are exceptions... The plasma gun is nice against those floating heads and the missle carriers (revenants) since it also takes out the missles.

More News to come.

:D Finally got through :D

It was harder getting to the last boss than killing the last boss. I did have help in that I had been given what the boss would be doing and that the only way to kill it was with multiple soul cube hits...

I managed to kill it on the first time I met it... All of the other bosses took 3 or more times. Perhaps I was lucky going around the circle, first with the BFG 9000 and second with the rocket launcher. The imps and wraiths coming out of the center of hell were pretty predictable.

The plus side is that when you use the soulcube, you get extra health back, and thats probably why I did survive. I do know at one point I only had 24 health but on the next soul cube pass I killed the boss. It takes several SC hits to kill it. I only wish I had gotten there with a charged soulcube.

It's a good thing the boss doesn't have guided rockets like the revenants or I would have been toast!

Still it's an extremely frighting game and it demands extreme concentration, and the use of the F5 (save game) key whenver you do well.

How's everyone else doing with it :?:
