Ok so I have been doing some looking and I'm thinking about getting something like this.

My plan is to load MS Server 2008 r2 and install VMware 7. If I up this to 8 Gigs of Ram, I am hoping to be able to support 3 or 4 VMs.
I plan on using the old server as a CommVault CommServe install, since my job is now as a CommVault Engineer.
So once the server is built, I'll migrate certain servers over to specific VMs. Still unsure if I can get game servers like UT3 to run in a VM.
I know HL dedicated and Source dedicated does not require a specific higher end video card. But I know UT3 and BF3 does, so that is the unknown.
Then I can use the CommServe install on the old server, upgraded to srv2008r2, to back up each VM for easy restore.
Anyone happen to use a VM to host say a UT3 Server that requires a good video card?
Just wondering if it's been done.
So, if anyone has any input to game servers on a VM please post!
Also, if you have any hardware you looking to get rid of, I would take parts or a barebones rather then something refurbed.
But I would need at least a dual core, quad core would even be better, at 3 Ghz, memory would be nice to have 4 gigs, but I can get what I need.
Storage, a huge bonus would be sata and ide ata compatible MB, I have 4 250 gig disks via ata, and one spare 500 gig SATA.
I plan on going SSD for my personal PC so I could move the 1.5 terabyte sata storage in the personal PC to the server.
