Can Apple really get together a Terabyte IPOD in 5 years?
In the past few weeks I have seen a lot of talk on blogs and tech articles about the prediction that Apple will have a terabyte IPOD in 5 years. For example:
http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/news/comments/5866
http://money.cnn.com/2005/11/11/technol ... edictions/
Though I personally beleave its more than possible, the hardware will have a lot of hurdles to overcome. No one is even close to a single terabyte harddrive for a PC / Server yet.

But just the concept alone... Imagine having an Ipod item sitting on your coffee table, that not only stores your complete audio collection. It also holds all of your favorite movies
Oh and by the way Tivo is already developing a hardwired or wireless connection so you can dump video from your TiVo to your Ipod..
Any thoughts?

Bleh, Signatures mean nothing to me!
In five years? easily. With all of the tech that's just over the horizon I would be surprised if they didn't, maybe even sooner.
Hitachi is almost there with this:

Hitachi is pushing the limits
Hitachi seems to be in the fore front of getting the most out of the "Winchester" concept. But eventually the platter arm technology will have to go the way of the steam engine.
IBM as well as a few others have been working on 3D storage devices that can store vast amounts of data without the moving parts of a spinning disk. But a few of these in testing have to be used in extreme environments such as sub zero temps.
It will be exciting none the less..

It could go the route of the tablet, but I doubt Steve would let that happen.
If we can get a terabyte of storage in the palm of your hand, that can play music and push quality video. The potential is endless.
At work we have an Infocus presentation projector pushing 800x600 res, 600 dpi images across a wireless ad-hoc network achieving decent 30 frames per second from a PC.
Take that technology and advance it five years and shrink it down and fit it in to an Ipod and a pare of glasses with headphones. Suddenly we have full screen, feature length movies in a pair of glasses.
Not sure if blue tooth can take the data load but it may in 5 years..
Just have to keep it simple, which is what apple always tries to do..
Geez and I hate apple's

Apple has a patent for a tablet http://www.macobserver.com/article/2005/05/10.18.shtml. Mix that with Front Row and you would have a really nice porrtable media center and not just a personal one.

So, umm. How's that terabyte iPod coming along? And no Apple would never come out with a tablet.

Love how those come back to haunt you Got to use the iPad the other day, not something I need at all. But this is probably going to be my next device to replace my phone and other things.
