L4D2 Video Render Problem

I have this problem that happiness more often than it should were the game sound sounds like a skipping record and the video freezes up. Happens for about 30 seconds or so and when it comes back it looks like this. All the texture files get mixed up and some times the texture file for the blood splatter and grain overlay is swapped as well and I can't see anything. Alt-Tapping fixes the problem. I think this has something to do with system memory but I haven't had much luck altering the page file or uping the amount of ram.
