Modern Warefare 2 Pre-order!!

Post by [FETT]Cupcake »

I just ordered my copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Anyone else jump on this? The trailers look really good. I was so hooked on COD4. Any chance that we could play this at the LAN? It would be out 3 weeks by LAN weekend. Anyone?

Where did you get it? Where's the good deal?

Sure we could play it if enough people have it. Not a problem for me to get the server once it comes out...lets see what everyone else thinks.

I pre-ordered from Gamestop and am going to pick it up in store on launch day. I don't think there are going to be any good deals seeing how hot people are for this game. PC version is 59.99. I gladly paid that because the cod games never disappoint. Single player is awesome too, plus the co-op is a fun addition. Can't forget nazi zombie, although I'm not sure if there will be nazis in this game. More of a Russian Middle-East thing...

Do you mean in the game or an actual night vision scope in the box? There is only one pc version, but the ps3 and xbox have different versions. I think they have veteren, hardened, and vanilla.

Did you hear that MW2 has no servers or mods for PC version!
What do you say?

Wow, I did not hear that. I'll have to look into it. Not sure how this can be a good thing, but we'll see. Maybe I should cancel my pre-order until I see how this plays out...

That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Now it looks like I really won't be getting it. I feel like reserving it and then canceling the reservation.

At first I was like, "I'm pissed", but I have to reconsider. This is something new and is causing a big stir. It may be a good thing, and it may not be. It said there will still be private matches available, I guess someone will have to host it. i'm just curious if you can play at a lan. More important, a lan with no internet. we will see.

Here's some I just found on Penny Arcade that's relevant here.

I'll sign it even thou I don't really care for faux war sims just to try to stem the tide of this crap. L4D has a bad enough server browser as it is we don't need more of this.

You may laugh...but I was thinking this exact thought. I was thinking, IW had a meeting, and it went like this:
Person A: Suggested the Dedicated Server was too much work
Person B: said "well lets not do it then."
Person A: Says "We can't do that, no one has ever done it before."
Person B: Says "Yeah...We can be the first! Gamers don't care...look at Consoles...those people put up with it. PC Gamers will get used to it. They just never had a reason to up to this point. We can be the company that makes them get used to it. We'll still sell 50 Million copies, who cares!"

I played CoD on PS3, and while we were playing...the game just ended. I was like WTF to the guy who owned the PS3. He was like, "Yeah...this happens all the time. The guy who was hosting the server must have quit. Let's go find a different server."

How stupid is that! If I want to go, everyone playing on my server has to take a hike? What?

I won't be getting it. We can still play CoD4. I don't need to spend $10 extra dollars ($60) and not get a Dedicated Server. I wouldn't spend $30 without a dedicated Server. Its just not worth my time.

It's not that bad on XBox Live or at least Halo3 and ODST. If the host quits the game pauses till a new host if found among the remaining players. I may end up 20 ft away from were you last left of. Just hope that 20 ft isn't off a cliff.

Another problem is you only get the players you start the game with. If someone on your team quits, no replacements. This might make sense for ranked game but I don't understand why it there for unranked.

I went into Gamestop today to cancel my pre-order and actual got into a verbal argument with the guy about this dedicated server thing. After talking with him I decided to keep my pre-order. He made some valid points about the whole server thing, not enough for me, but I'm curious to see how it plays out. Plus, he said her would personally buy the game back from me if I didn't like it, so we'll see. You should have seen me, I was getting heated...good argument.

Did you pay to preorder? You could just wait to see how this goes over and then buy the game. Glad I did for Spore.

I've read everything there is to read about MW2, and in the end the thing that decided it for me is Infinity Ward's own press release. They stated that they will not support LAN gaming in order to "protect the profitability of the product." Whomever creates a server has absolutely no control over it. You cannot control who joins, nor can you moderate the server. There will also be a maximum of 18 players total.

I canceled my pre-order. Fark this game.
