The passing of a great server...

Post by Digger[NJLP] »

Today my oldest and longest running server is hitting the recycle heap. It had run non stop from 1995 to 2006 when it was shutoff for 3 days of moving. It then ran for another two years before I just had to turn it off. Aside from adding more RAM and replacing the power supply it ran great. It was Dual P2 233 Mhz., ASUS MB with SCSI 2, in an (AOC?) Server box. I ran NT, 2000, and 2003 on it and it was everything a web server, a game server, a media server, and an FTP server.

It ran long and hard.

I really gotta stop hanging on to hardware for so long...

Whats weird is just now I decided to get this old iMac I've had laying around back to working condition.

It's really has more to do with pride that anything else. But I'm sure I can find something to do with it.

Murphy's Law.. Re: The passing of a great server...

So four days after my purge, I sit at my desk and turn on my PC and nothing happens. Look down and their is no power light on but the HD light is on solid. I took the PC apart and have determined its either MB or CPU, I'm leaning more toward MB. Power supply is supplying propper power to everything including MB power channels. With only a vid card and 2 Gigs of memory installed, the PC is completely unresponsive.. Fans and Drives power up but nothing happens.

So I'm either replacing the board or I'm going for a new system.
