find me a program...

Post by kobalt »

I need help finding software that will automatically burn random mp3's to a cd from multiple directories. Does such a beast exist?

Random Burn/PLay List in WinMedia 11

Hmm...

So if I read this right you want something that will burn songs from a randomly created playlist. The program will also pull from random storage points on your hard drive.

Ok well off the cuff I'll give you my quick option. At home I use Windows Media player for the "house music". We have about 400 CD's on a Drive on my server.

In Win Media Player 11 go to Tools->Options to display the "Options" dialog box. Click the Library tab and then the "Monitor Folder" button. Make sure all fo the drive locations you want media player to monitor are added to the list. See picture below:

Next go to the Media Library View and turn on shuffle.
Left Click once on "Songs" in the library tree to select and then right click and choose play. See picture below:

Now click on the "Now Playing" tab, if you don't see the List Pane as in my example. Click the smallish arrow under "Now Playing" and click "Show List Pane". You should either see a blank play list or the current album playing. Click the "Now Playing" button in the List Pane and click on "Shuffle List Now"

Walla! Instant random playlist from your whole collection to copy to the "Burn List" for burning to CD.

Media 11 is free and can bee downloaded from Microsoft.
I'll post other alternatives as I find 'em.
Bleh, Signatures mean nothing to me!

Thanx for the massive posting effort, Digger. This is exactly what I am looking for, although in a more streamlined form. I am familiar with the solution you've mentioned but have to admit that I'm not a big fan of WMP11 and am looking for alternative solutions (perhaps I should have mentioned that part before you did all that typing, great writeup nonetheless).

Home today for Linoln's Birthday, didn't take to much effort. I agrer that this method is kinda of a pain. But your best route might be this.
Almost all CD/Music burning software work based on a play list. You could write a script(VP/Perl/etc) to create your own playlist file for your preferred burning software of choice. Then put the randomizing their in the script.

You just need to analyze the playlist file for that product and see what the parameters are. Some may have it on the web site, others may require you to open the file with an alternate scipt to see what it contains.

I'll still keep my eye out for a GUI out of the box alternative.
