What does everyone think?
For one thing I don't like the idea of being forced into Cingular, but according to this http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/macworld2007 ... 227575.php there will be a CDMA version for Japan.

It looks sweet but my Dad's opinion on buying cars seems to be echoing in my head..
Never buy the first model year..
I didn't see a statement on the web site, but from what you posted it appears that they have partnered with Cingular to provide the phone service.
I don't think your ever going to have a phone that operates on any celluar service or even a phone that gives you a choice. I have Cingular and so far am very happy with the service.

Over all it seems to be the must have phone for 2007. I like the touch screen feature and the large screen size.
Apple seems to have jumped ahead of the market and they'll make a mint. My guess is if Apple didn't do it, a year or so down the road someone else would.
I'm already dreaming of a pocket pc the exact same size but with the same smooth look. They do a real great job with aesthetics and interface. But the day Apple installs a Microsoft OS even on a portable pocket PC is the day the Apple goes rotten.
Who would want a MAC OS on a portable.. It won't synch with Outlook!

Oh wait it is OS X... Ugh... Now why would I buy that???

Just thought of something...
Its essentially a wireless PC runing MAC OS X.
Someone is going to figure it out.

To many networks to connect plus your downloading music to the hard drive. Hmm wonder how hard it would be to imbed a virus into a music file...iPhone uses quad-band GSM, the global standard for wireless communications. It also supports Cingular’s EDGE network, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR, which links to Apple’s new, remarkably compact Bluetooth headset.

It's not the true OS X, although it could still be a FreeBSD variant.
At this time apple has a closed development policy no 3rd party apps to outlook syncing. But I doubt apple is making the iPhone a Mac only device.
They already have a trend started with the iPod, before they came out with iTunes for windows they worked with MusicMatch on a plugin.
This doesn't mean I think they'll come out with a mail program for windows, but instead make sure that their phone will work for what people are already using. If they do come out with their own mail app it will be long after they have this working it outlook.

You posted as I was replying to your last message.
The iPhone is currently closed to 3rd parties for software developments and not to say that macs can't get viruses. It's just the large bulk of them come from problems with 3rd party software and not the OS it self.Digger[NJLP] wrote:To many networks to connect plus your downloading music to the hard drive. Well their have been viruses for the MAC OS X.
First ever virus for Mac OS X discovered
http://www.sophos.com/pressoffice/news/ ... xleap.html
Second Mac OS X worm spreads via Bluetooth vulnerability
http://www.sophos.com/pressoffice/news/ ... qtana.html
And a good read on the pending attack!
79% believe Mac will be targeted more often in wake of Leap-A Mac OS X worm
http://www.sophos.com/pressoffice/news/ ... cpoll.html
Look at hackers and the like, as water flowing down a hill. They'll take the path of least resistance, Microsoft.
I'll bet a paycheck that as the market gets more and more saturated with "MAC" you'll see more and more worms, trojans, and viruses for MAC.
If MAC becomes what everybody in the Linux/Unix world hopes it will evolve in to. Then you will see alot more viruses start appearing specifically targeting the MAC.
